This is a very important question! You are investing time and resources and want to be sure you are picking the right person. You should consider factors such as office location, availability as well as personal factors like my training and expertise, personality, and 'the vibe' you get).
After an initial phone conversation, you should be able to answer some of these questions. Our first few sessions can also continue to inform your decision and we can talk about any ongoing reservations or concerns you might have.

NOTE: All new clients are required to complete intake forms through the client portal at least 24 hours prior to our first session. The first session is often called an initial intake or evaluation. This session provide us the opportunity to review your initial paperwork, informed consent, privacy, practice policies, and define the areas of life that are creating distress, your goals, and other aspects of your history that may be influencing where you are at and where you want to go.
These initial tasks help to provide an important foundation about who you are and what strategies may benefit you the most while working with me. The second half of the evaulation involves the development of specific goals and a "gameplan" for the therapuetic process.
Throughout the psychotherapy process, you will experience a safe and non-judgment space to explore and process things in new and deeper ways. Because each person has different needs and goals, therapy will be different depending on the individual.
Often, you can expect to discuss the current events happening in your life, your past history and corresponding belief systems, the development and application of new skills, and insights gained from the previous therapy session. Depending on your specific needs, therapy can be short-term, for a specific issue, or longer-term, to deal with more difficult patterns or your desire for more personal development. Either way, it is common to schedule regular sessions with your therapist.
Many people find that psychotherapy can help in managing personal growth and interpersonal relationships. Therapists can provide a fresh perspective on a difficult problem or point you in the direction of a solution.
